Rangnick ‘couldn’t possibly turn down’ Man Utd role

Manchester United face a big January transfer window as interim boss Ralf Rangnick looks to put his stamp on the squad at Old Trafford.

The new era could start with a huge overhaul of the squad with United hoping to address the lack of balance within the playing squad and solve the problem defensive midfield position.

And former RB Leipzig boss Rangnick has already been linked with a number of players he could bring in next month, but others will also need to depart.

Rangnick is said to have already made his mind up on at least two current players, while he’s also had to deal with friction between star man Cristiano Ronaldo and Mason Greenwood.

And, after being linked with a move to Barcelona net month, Edinson Cavani has made his feelings clear on his future at the club.

Greenwood role confirmed

Ralf Rangnick has confirmed Mason Greenwood’s role in his Manchester United squad following friction between the young forward and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Greenwood is said to have been “upset” with his lack of playing time at Old Trafford following the arrival of Ronaldo last summer.

Reports have suggested that the more peripheral role Greenwood has had this season and Ronaldo’s leadership role inside the dressing room have caused the Man United youth academy graduate some grievances.

But his role within the squad has now been confirmed by his new boss.

Cavani makes feelings clear

Edinson Cavani has made his stance clear after he was linked with a January exit from Old Trafford.

The 34-year-old Uruguayan striker’s contract is up at the end of the season and recent reports have suggested he could leave before then and make a switch to Barcelona in the new year.

Cavani is being touted as a replacement for former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero at the Nou Camp after he had to retire due to health problems earlier this week.

And Cavani has laid out his stance amid all of the speculation.

Shake-up set to begin

The Old Trafford exodus could start with the departures of Anthony Martial and Jesse Linkgard.

Rangnick is believed to want to trim down the Old Trafford club’s playing squad, which he believes became too bloated under the stewardship of previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Dean Henderson has also been linked with a move away after falling behind David de Gea as the club’s No.1 this season, although Rangnick is said to be reluctant to part with the English goalkeeper.

Rangnick appears to have also made decisions about the futures of Phil Jones, Donny van de Beek and Edinson Cavani ahead of what could be a busy transfer window for the Red Devils.
