Former Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been frozen out following his latest disciplinary breach, and his omission from the first team looks set to continue
Ex-Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s troubles at the club appear to be set to continue with his manager Mikel Arteta refusing to back down.
And Arteta has now confirmed the striker will continue to be unavailable ahead of their next Premier League encounter against Leeds United.
It comes as the Arsenal boss has also explained why Nicolas Pepe isn’t getting “opportunities”, and a transfer boost for the club ahead of next month’s January transfer window.
Here are Mirror Football’s latest Arsenal headlines.
Aubameyang row escalates
Mikel Arteta has refused to back down in his row with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as the striker continues to be omitted from the club’s matchday squad.
Question marks have appeared over the Gabon international’s future at the Emirates Stadium following his disciplinary breach, with some suggesting he could now move on in next month’s January transfer window.
The striker is also due to take part in next month’s Africa Cup of Nations and so may not play again for the club until February if he does stay.
Arteta has now explained his position in the row, and why he is continuing to take stern action against his striker.
Nicolas Pepe’s opportunities explained
The Gunners boss has also explained why record-signing Nicolas Pepe has struggled for minutes on the pitch recently.
Pepe has made just 10 appearances so far this season but appears to have fallen down the pecking order at the club.
And Arteta has opened up about the Ivory Coast international’s situation at the club, and what he needs to do to get himself in the starting XI.
Renato Sanches transfer boost
Arsenal have had a boost in their pursuit of Lile midfielder Renato Sanches after it emerged he has a gentleman’s agreement in place to leave the club next month, it has been reported.
Sanches is thought to be quite high on Gunners boss Arteta’s list of targets ahead of next month’s January transfer window and the club have been widely tipped to make a move for the Portugal international.
The player himself has also spoken out about a potential move, having also been linked with Itlaian giants AC Milan.
And now Lille president Olivier Létang has confirmed Sanches will be allowed to leave the Stade Pierre Mauroy next month – on one condition.
