Jurgen Klopp previews Aston Villa clash

While Liverpool have continued to pick up results as their fixture list becomes more crowded, they may well still dip into the transfer market in January.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita are all off to the Africa Cup of Nations in the new year, so reinforcements may be sought, while the Reds have been known in the past to make moves in the mid-season window if the right player becomes available for the right price.

Divock Origi has shown his worth with two goals in the last two games, while further back we have seen the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Thiago Alcantara impress after some tough times during their Liverpool careers.

With Jurgen Klopp’s side set to welcome Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa to Anfield on Saturday, the manager will likely continue to assess his squad and decide what, if anything is needed.

Jurgen Klopp needs to decide if his squad needs strengthening

Liverpool are in a better spot now than they were at this point last season, at least from an injury point of view.

However, with Nat Phillips ruled out for a few weeks and others on their way back after time on the sidelines, the club may decide investment is needed.

Former Reds target Joao Felix in line for tug of war

Atletico Madrid forward has been a target for Liverpool in the past, and the Reds will have been put on alert with news that the Portugal international could be set for an exit.

According to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser, Atletico’s record signing is ready to leave the club, and reports elsewhere in the country mention the Merseyside club as one of four potential destinations in the Premier League.

Joao Felix could be on the move as soon as January, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United all named as possible interested parties.

The 22-year-old hasn’t started for Atletico in more than a month, when he played an hour at Anfield in his team’s 2-0 Champions League group stage defeat.

Barcelona starlet Gavi has been one of the few bright sparks for the Catalan club this season, breaking into the first-team as a teenager and also making his international debut for Spain.

However, according to El Nacional, Barca’s elimination from the Champions League has brought about interest from clubs around Europe in the event that the young talent decides against extending his deal.

The 17-year-old has reportedly attracted the interest of Liverpool, as well as Chelsea and Bayern Munich, and has yet to extend a contract which runs until 2023.

Gavi, who reportedly has a €50m release clause, has already played 22 times this season for club and country, including a start in the final Champions League group game away to Bayern.

Jurgen Klopp is believed to be a big admirer of West Ham forward Bowen, who was linked with a move to Anfield over the summer.

The 24-year-old scored his fourth goal of the season last weekend as the Hammers beat Liverpool’s title rivals Chelsea, and has repeated last season’s form to help the east London club keep up their top four push.

If Liverpool were tempted to test the water in January with Salah and Mane away in Cameroon, news of West Ham beginning talks over a contract extension could put them off.

According to 90min, David Moyes’ side are keen to begin talks with the former Hull man over a new deal amid potential interest from Merseyside, despite Bowen’s current deal running until 2025.
