Arsenal end unwanted streak

Although it’s obvious Arsenal are making some encouraging progress this season, in recent weeks the team has toiled away from home.

Before kick off at Elland Road they had lost in three successive away fixtures, going down in disappointing style away at Liverpool, Manchester United and Everton.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson has given his backing to current Gunners stopper Aaron Ramsdale after his excellent start to life at the club.

The England international joined Arsenal from Sheffield United and a few eyebrows were raised after he suffered relegation with both the Blades and Bournemouth.

Wilson conceded he shared those concerns when the deal went through, although he has praised the “terrific influence” Ramsdale has had at the Emirates Stadium.

“As an old-school keeper who was happy to get the ball down the other end, playing out from the back drives me crackers – and yet last Saturday was a classic example of how it can lead to something beautiful,” he said.

“Aaron came within the tiniest fraction of losing the ball in his own box, and yet 15 seconds later, after a flowing move, Alex Lacazette was applying a glorious finish at the other end.”

Saliba on Arsenal ‘slap’

William Saliba has revealed his setbacks at Arsenal has given him a “good slap.”

The young defender signed for the Gunners in 2019 and in that time he has had loan stints with Saint Etienne, Nice and now at Marseille.

Now 20 years old, Saliba has been one of the best young defenders in Ligue 1 this season and Arsenal fans are excited to see what he can offer when he does return to the club.

The man himself has said he’s learned a lot having been sent out on a number of loans.

“I took this experience by being positive,” he said. “I feed on it. I know what it’s like not to play for six months. Today, I want to play every game.

“It puts the ideas back in place. Before arriving at Arsenal, I said to myself: ‘Who am I going to play with?’ And then you are not even in the group in the Premier League. It gives you a good slap, it feels good. it brings you back to the reality.”
